N318 carries the same heavy, white wool and great crimp definition as his highly proven father N4636. This exceptionally long stapled ram was very well covered with fleece wool right down to the points. The extreme depth through his flank combined with his perfect wide stance and good clean head helped to make the decision of the five judges unanimous in awarding him Best Ram of the show and then Supreme Exhibit.
N318 was sold for $26000 at Bendigo in July 2011 to a syndicate led by Beaufront Merino Stud from Ross in Tasmania, and two Victorian Studs, Eilan Donan from Elphinstone and Mt Widderin from Skipton.
Nerstane has entered N318 in the New England Central Test Sire Evaluation for 2011.

Grand Champion Fine Wool Ram Sydney Royal 2008 and Champion Fine Wool March Shorn Ram Dubbo National Show 2007
Great bone with brilliant wool is the best way to describe Nerstane 10. Comments written in the lambing book by Nerstane overseer Shane Rule at birth were: “Huge lamb, great skin, good bone”.
N10 has a very strong head with a soft, pure muzzle that is also deep, wide and ‘sirey’.
His wool tests at Dubbo as a 2 year old ram speak for themselves (17.2 micron, 2.9 SD, 16.9 CV) while having a bodyweight of 125kg. The width across his back from his tail to his poll is outstanding.
N10's progeny at Nerstane and in the Tasmanian and New England Central Test sites have been outstanding for fleeceweight and micron and also high tops and low culls.
N10 is the sire of N910 who was Grand Champion Fine Wool Ram at Bendigo 2011.

This ram is probably the heaviest cutting sheep Nerstane has produced.
N4636 has a very special skin type which carries heavy, true white, almost shiny wool all over his body.
As a 2 year old ram at Dubbo National show, he was regulation shorn in the production class and was the heaviest cutting, with the finest micron out of all the rams. He cut 16.1 kg of 18.7 micron wool! The fleece on the day was valued at $125.66.
At the 2008 Sydney Royal show a full sister to N4636, N984, was judged Best Junior Exhibit of the show. The next day she was given Grand Champion Fine Medium Wool Ewe and then was unanimously judged the Best Ewe of the entire show.
Nerstane has used this outstanding son of N43 extensively in ET, AI and naturally and have some very interesting progeny. He throws a very white crimpy wool (with that same nourished tip) that always seems to weigh heavy.
N4636 has been proven in the Western Australian and the Tasmanian Central Test sire evaluation sites as well as the sheep CRC's Genomics program.

This ram has had outstanding results right across Australia in Central Test Sire Evaluations, other studs, and commercial operations.
N222's ability to "click" over a variety of different sheep makes him a very safe choice to use if you are looking for good wool on a good frame.
Merino Superior Sires has N222 ranked in the top 25 rams (in Australia) in 4 out of the 6 indexes including being ranked first in the 20% + staple strength list. N222 has one of the best tops to culls ratios recorded having over 33% of his progeny independently classed into Tops and -21% classed as culls.
N222 is a very uncomplicated sire, and is one of those sheep that stands perfectly all the time. N222 has just enough skin while still being a real ''freegrower'' and has that beautiful soft, well nourished tip with excellent wool underneath.
At the Dubbo National Show and Sale in 2009 a full brother to N222, N59, topped the sale at $29000 which is also Nerstane's record price. The ram was purchased by a syndicate of 5 studs including Trefusis and Beaufront in Tasmania and Eilan Donan, Denholm Green, and Mount Widderin studs in Victoria.
At the 2008 Sydney Royal, another full brother to N222, N57, who was a member of our winning Stonehaven Cup team was also successful in the objective measurement class. The ram tested as a 4 tooth 17.7 microns, 2.8 SD, and cut 15.8 kg in front of the crowd. The fleece was valued at $135.13. N57 was sold at Armidale in 2009 to Uruguayan clients Central Lanera Co-Operative for $14000.
N222 is out of one of the top performing ET ewes (N2249) at Nerstane who has produced 4 reserves to date. She was by another top performing sire N108 who was by N2.
On the Sheep Genetics figures, N222's progeny is very good for fleece weight, staple strength, CV, body weight, and has low microns and quite low WEC.

Arguably the most proven ram in Australia with nearly 4000 progeny recorded from 46 different flocks, N2 stamps his progeny with outstanding wool types, huge staple length, and negative WEC.
The wool from N2 progeny in Sire Evaluations, at Nerstane, and in clients' own progeny tests is well nourished, long deep crimping soft fine wool that always attracts premiums in the marketplace.
Many leading studs including some of the most renowned merino studs have used N2 with great success.

Nerstane 142 is a very unique ram. His massive size and coverage carrying such a long staple of rich, deep crimping wool combined with the evenness and exceptional belly wool, convinced the 5 judges at Sydney to make their unanimous decision. His 18.6-micron test shows his true softness with a SD of only 2.8, CV of 15.0,with 0% fibres over 30mic.
N142 is stamping his progeny with size, while carrying finer than average, soft bright wools very similar to himself.
Unfortunately N142 has passed away and there is limited semen available.

Champion August Shorn Ram Sydney Royal Easter Show 2002
Nerstane’s leading sire. Unfortunately N43 has moved on but he has left his mark here at Nerstane and right across the merino industry.
This ram has performed outstandingly in many flocks across Australia. N43 has been a trait leader in every Central Test Sire Evaluation site that he has been entered in.
Nerstane 43 as a sire is performing consistently in the show & sale rings.
Langdene 4073 was judged Supreme Ram at Bendigo, then onto NSW ram at Dubbo, and then judged Australian Supreme Merino in 2009. This outstanding ram was a son N43 and weighed 144kg at only 17.0 micron. Congratulations to the Cox family. A Nerstane two tooth ewe who was a daughter of N43 was judged Supreme Exhibit at The Sydney Royal Easter Show. Another daughter who was also a 2 tooth in 2008 was awarded best ewe of the show.
N412, a son of N43, was judged Champion Sale Ram at Armidale in 2005 and sold for $12000 to Borambil Merino Stud.
In 2009, N57, who was also a son of N43 sold to Uruguayan clients, Central Lanera for $14000 at Armidale.
At the Dubbo National a full brother to N57, N59 topped the sale at $29000. The ram was purchased by a syndicate of 5 studs including Trefusis and Beaufront studs in Tasmania and Eilan Donan, Denholm Green, and Mount Widderin studs in Victoria.

This is the best N2 son that Nerstane has bred, both on looks and progeny figures.
N930 shows great presence. He has a good head with a soft, broad muzzle. This sire has tremendous depth through his flank and body. He has the thickness of his mother who was by N142 and the exceptional, long stapled N2 wool.
The progeny from this sire have also had an influence in the stud. N930 is throwing the nourishment and that unmistakeable depth in the flank into his sons. They have very high fleece weights, low microns/CV , and good figures for staple length & strength.

Nerstane N404 is the ram on the far right of photo.
N404 is one of Nerstane's fine micron sires that still has size and fleeceweight. On the Sheep Genetics website his progeny are over aveage on bodyweights and fleeceweights, while being in the top 10% of all animals in Australia for fibre diameter.
N404 progeny are large framed, plain and uncomplicated.
This ram throws a bright white wool that is more traditional in the crimp than the normal "good 66's" that Nerstane is known for.

This sire has the most impressive record of any ram ever involved in Sire Evaluations. He has proven time after time (joined to super fine, fine or medium wool sheep) that he has the ability to consistently produce high quality progeny with the genetics that breed on.
Nerstane 697's two biggest assets to both the commercial or stud breeder is the fact that he can consistently produce progeny with fine microns while maintaining great fleece weights. The second is the very high percentage of classed tops and very low percentage of classed culls in his progeny.
Nerstane 697 has been used exstensively in NSW, VIC, SA and WA. He continues to perform both under high rainfall and harsher dry pastoral conditions.

Nerstane Sheep Perform in a Range of Areas
While the main market for the Nerstane bloodline has been the New England Tablelands and the slopes areas, it has quietly been demonstrating its versatility by performing well in many other areas right around Australia.
The increasing awareness of Nerstane’s performance in Sire Evaluation programs has prompted many stud and commercial breeders to trial the Nerstane bloodline under distinctly different pastoral and climatic conditions.
If you are interested in evaluating the performance of the Nerstane bloodline we can provide assistance in setting up and running the evaluation. It is relatively easy to do and the only accurate way of demonstrating what the Nerstane bloodline can do for your flock.
Please do not hesitate to ask us for details of breeders in your area that may give you valuable information about the performance of Nerstane genetics.
